Clinical Bio-markers in Drug Discovery and Development

The term Biomarker which is also known as biological marker can be defined in a broad subcategory of medical signs which indicates the medical state observed from outside the patient which can be reproduced and measured accurately.

Body fluids like blood and other tissues contains bio-markers which can be a sign of a normal or abnormal process, or of a condition or disease. Capacity of a patient’s body that responds to a treatment for a disease or condition can be indicated by Bio-markers. Such bio-markers are also called as molecular marker and signature molecule.

They play an important role in the field of drug discovery and development. Robust drug safety and efficacy measurements are the challenges for the bio-markers. Their role in drug development will continue to grow for the foreseeable future. To know the rightful role of a Bio-marker, greater understanding of the mechanism of disease progression and therapeutic intervention is needed. Understanding of the requirements for bio-marker selection and validation, bio-marker assay method validation and application, and clinical endpoint validation and application is needed. Bio-markers must be taken into consideration while the therapeutic target is still being identified and the concept is being formulated. Development and application of Optimum bio-marker will require a team approach because of the multifaceted nature of bio-marker selection and validation. Application of techniques such as pharmacoepidemiology, pharmacogenetics, pharmacogenomics, functional proteomics, bioanalytical method development and validation, disease process, therapeutic intervention assessments, and pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic modeling and simulation to improve and refine drug development are major aspects in clinical bio-markers in drug discovery and development.

Pharma Medicinal Chemistry 2018 aims to gather leading educational scientists, researchers and research students to exchange & share their experiences and research results about all aspects of Pharmaceutical Science and Medicinal Chemistry. We invite all people who are interested to explore their research, case studies and practitioners of Pharmaceutical Chemistry, Drug development and Discovery to the 18th International Conference on Medicinal and Pharmaceutical Chemistry during October 18-19, 2018 in Dubai, UAE.
