Cosmeceuticals: Bridging the gap between Cosmetics and Pharmaceuticals

Cosmeceuticals are one of the emerging fields which relate Pharmaceutical drugs and traditional cosmetic products. Cosmeceuticals are cosmetic products with bioactive ingredients purported to have medical or drug-like benefits. The major sources in pharmaceuticals are starches and they make a variety of contributions. Starch is one of the hybrid product which is used quite extensively in healthcare products, cosmetic and makeup. It acts as beauty enhancer by beneficially interacting with our body's biological functions. Knowing the advancements in the field of Skin Biology and Pharmacology facilitated the development of Pharma in cosmetics. Dermatologic problems can be eliminated by establishing the skin care regimen which is important to maintain healthy and hydrated skin. Cosmetic dermatology helps in assessing and treating skin conditions and cosmetic skills with procedures such as Botox, collagen injections, chemical peels, Dermabrasion, laser surgery and liposuction.

Nevertheless, Pharmaceutical medicines have its contributions in the field of Acne Therapy. Oral antibiotics such as doxycycline, tetracycline, minocycline or erythromycin are used to reduce bacterial inflammation. Industrial pharmacy and Cosmetic sciences are related fields that are primarily concerned with producing new medicines and cosmetic products for consumers. Researchers, developments and testing of new cosmetics, perfumes, and toiletries are performed by the cosmetic scientists, also called cosmetic chemists by using their scientific skills. Potential employers for pharmaceutical and cosmetic scientists include drug companies, government agencies or universities etc. Since people are becoming more conscious about their looks, there will be robust growth in global cosmeceuticals market in the upcoming years. In terms of growth rate, however, the Asia Pacific market is slated to gain the most.
